Early Education Notice: Destruction Of Special Education Records that are from 2000 – 2010
NOTICE
BURLINGTON SCHOOL DISTICT
DESTRUCTION OF EARLY ED. SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS
ATTN: Parents/guardians of children who received special education services at the Burlington School District’s Essential Early Education Program between the years of 2000 and 2010.
The Vermont Department of Education’s Manual of Rights and Practices, Section 2356.2.12 (a) Destruction of Records states:
“For purposed of an audit, when a participating agency has counted a child to justify receipt of IDEA funds, the district shall retain copies of the child’s IEP and special education eligibility evaluations for a minimum of 5 years from the end of the school year which the document was in effect.”
The Burlington School District Early Education Program is planning on destroying special education records of students who attending the EEE program between 2000 and 2010 as the information is no longer relevant/needed for the student’s educational program.
If your child attended during these years and you would like a copy of your child’s records, please contact the Early Education Program at 802-864-8463.
We must receive your request prior to January 3rd 2018

BHS ReEnvisioning work is under way in Burlington. The BHS ReEnvisioning Resource Committee has been speaking to community members, staff, and students about broad building concepts and will continue to do so in the coming months.
